Three Reservoirs Walk from Ingbirchworth

The sun shone down on the Dearne Valley Walking Festival again today, as another strong attendance of 19 adults and two juniors assembled at the (sadly defunct) Fountain at Ingbirchworth. We proceeded to Inbirchworth Reservoir, doing a partial circuit before picking up an ascending road up to Spicer House Lane, with its panoramic views of the reservoirs. From here we descended to Royd Moor Reservoir, skirting its southern edge to pick up part of the Penistone Boundary Walk, taking us eventually into woodland and the dam wall at Scout Dike reservoir. Half a lap later (and much to the relief of the walk leader!) we found a path, not marked on the OS maps, up alongside the waterworks to the main road.

Keeping our stay on the main road to a minimum, we returned on local lanes to the dam wall of Inbirchworth Reservoir, the crossing of which returned us to our start point.

Many thanks to all who took the time out to attend today's walk and a warm welcome to Jo Shelbourne and June Braithwaite who stepped out with our group for the first time today.
