Rockley Blast Furnace from Worsbrough Village

Our 2019 Walking Festival concluded with this short jaunt from the Edmunds Arms in Worsbrough Village. Leaving the pub to take a footpath down fields, we crossed the main road to take a fbroad track into the Worsbrough Mill Country Park. We crossed the reservoir, continuing into open farmland and out to Rockley Old Hall, to cross the M1 via a footbridge. We then followed the long drive to the Equestrian Centre, emerging near Queen Anne's Obelisk, ascending now to skirt Ivas Wood and enter Broom Royd Wood. We then descended through the woodland and caravan site to the historic Rockley Blast Furnace, before crossing beneath the M1 to make our final ascent into Birdwell and on to Worsbrough Village.

We would like to thank the 37 who walked this one in blistering heat and everyone who dined with us afterwards. I think we can safely declare the Festival a resounding success and hope both our established participants and the numerous new faces the festival brought in will continue to step out with our group.

A special mention goes out to Marian Russell and Steve Ellis, who walked all of the eight consecutive days. Very well done indeed!
